In Berlin-Pankow, 40 partially subsidized one- to three-bedroom-apartments in three buildings are being erected for the GESOBAU AG housing association. The new volumes are based on the surrounding structures with a large building on Blankenburger Strasse and two small houses on Klothildestrasse. In addition to the urban context, the proximity to an adjacent discounter with its corresponding noise emissions is decisive for the arrangement and design of the buildings and the landscaping. Massive, bright plaster houses with set-back attics, cantilevered balconies and a functional setting of openings link the ensemble in a modernist tradition with its surroundings. Half of the apartments are developed for subsidized housing. Private outdoor seating areas are located in shared open spaces, characterized by roses and hornbeams. The buildings are designed according to the current energy standards. Winking · Froh received the commission as a project of a within a framework contract. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
